Route-wise verification in iron and steel
We verify each production route on its own terms, then reconcile it to the crude steel basis.
BF-BOF
Coke rate, sinter and pellet use, injected coal, flux calcination, BF and BOF gas recovery, and carbon in hot metal versus crude steel.
DRI-EAF
Coal-based versus gas-based DRI, char and dolochar handling, electrode consumption, scrap ratio, and DRI bought in from outside the boundary.
Induction furnace and re-rolling
Scrap-based routes where almost all emissions are indirect, through grid power, so the grid emission factor and the captive power split are decisive.
Ferroalloys
Submerged arc furnace process CO2, reductant carbon and electrode carbon, with the product basis on contained metal.
Captive power and waste heat
WHRB and top-gas recovery turbine credits must be evidenced from metered data, not from design figures.
Crude steel basis
Intensity is reported per tonne of crude steel equivalent. Plants reporting on a saleable or billet basis produce a number that is not comparable.

Frequently asked questions
Does purchased DRI count in our boundary?
DRI made outside your boundary is an input, and its upstream emissions are not yours. Switching between captive and purchased DRI during a reporting year changes your intensity, so it must be documented.
How are BF gas and BOF gas credits handled?
Recovered gas used inside the boundary displaces fresh fuel and shows up in the fuel balance. Gas exported outside the boundary is treated separately. Both need metered evidence.
Is green steel certification the same as CCTS verification?
No. Green steel certification rates a producer against the taxonomy thresholds; CCTS verification assures reported data against a compliance target. We do both, as separate engagements with separate reports.
